But of course...

Go forth and spread the joy of knitting!

I love teaching people how to knit...so when my cousin came for a visit and she didn't know how to knit...I mean how could you pass up that oportunity! So we did some shopping and ended up at the yarn store. She actually picked it up pretty quickly since she does other fabric crafts. I started her with a simple garter stitch scarf.

Here we are with our knitting.

Hera's Birthday!

So munchkin turned the big number "8". What an old lady she is! So...how much is that in dog years? The old wives tale says that 1 dog year= 7 human years. If that is correct then Hera is 56! She really is old, but she hasn't lost much of her spunk.

I stopped at the "barkery" for a special treat. It always smells so good in there. Peanut butter bones are her favorite so I got a peanut butter bone dipped in carob with "Hera" written on it. I know she is really spoiled, but I don't have anyone else to spoil...well maybe B.
She was licking the wrapper before I unwrapped it--yummy!

Gone in a flash!

C'est fini!

I am done! Yeah! The never ending Crinoid shawl is done! And I must say it looks pretty good. I still need to block it though. Here I am modeling my beautiful scarf!

The holes are convenient for peeking! I could be Batman's sidekick!

School Musical

So, as the art teacher I get roped into doing all kinds of stuff. One of those things is helping out with the backdrops and props for the school musical. This year they are doing "Busgy Malone" a 1920's gangster spoof. The kids are getting pysched for the performances that will be next week.

Last night I finished (with the help of an awesome parent!) the last of the sets which is a bookshelf behind which is the secret speak-easy. Caution...you must use your imagination.

I am totally pleased with the way the bookshelf came out and may I have a second career as a faux painter. NOT!

Spring Ahead!

Is it coming? I mean really folks...we do live in New England where the weather is somewhat unpredictable. But this weekend we "spring ahead" with our clocks. So that means it is coming...right?
Maybe I should wait until my daffodils are coming up!

Wild about Color!

All kinds of stitchin' was going on at the Kristin Nicholas workshop at Sit 'n Knit, Too on Saturday. Nicholas is known for her wild color combinations and funky patterning on garments. I had bought one on her books a while ago and loved her funky spin on color and pattern. When I saw she was having a workshop and book signing I jumped at the chance to learn these simple embellishing techniques.

The workshop was held in a cute coffeeshop next door to the Comstock Ferre building. Nicholas' colorful pillows and knitwear were on display and begging to be looked at. We were asked to bring a 8" square of stockinette stitch which we would learn to embellish.

We learned all different types of stitches inlcuding: duplicate stitch, running stitch, chain stitch, lazy daisy, french knot, bar weaving, spider web, outline stitch, blanket stitch and others.
It is a fun and easy way to bring added color and pattern without having to carry along extra bobbins. Kristin was a energitic and kind teacher. It was a joy to meet her!
